Malpas Catchment – support available for pasture monitoringThe recent rainfall has given much of the Malpas Catchment a bit of a break from the dry conditions we’ve all been experiencing. Fingers crossed the good conditions continue. Whether or not they do though, pasture monitoring and feed budgeting is an essential tool to plan into the future. Rachel Lawrence, Malpas Catchment Coordinator, has experience with pasture species identification (both native and exotic) and monitoring of pasture biomass and condition of the ground and litter layer. Rachel is available to provide support to small groups within the Malpas area who would like to implement pasture monitoring and feed budgeting. Rachel would work with graziers to follow the methodology put in place by Dr Judi Earl and Dr Lewis Kahn from Agricultural Information and Monitoring Services (AIMSAG). Small groups of three or so people is ideal, fewer is ok, but preferably no larger. If this is of interest to you, please contact Rachel via email or at the Southern New England Landcare office on 02 6772 9123. |

Summer forage crop optionsGlen Uebergang, Northern Tablelands LLS Mixed Farming Officer With many parts of the Northern Slopes and Tablelands receiving useful rainfall recently landholders may be considering planting summer forage crops. These can be grown to provide a bulk of quality feed to reduce the pressure on recovering perennial pastures, assist in controlling weeds and preparing a seedbed for planting pastures the following autumn, or for hay and silage. Summer forages can produce large amounts of feed from a smaller area. Options available include forage millet, forage sorghum, pennisetum, cowpea, lablab and brassicas. Read More |

Your feedback sought on weed biocontrolLandcare NSW has been engaged by NSW DPI to deliver a component of the Managing established Pest Animals and Weeds (MEPAAW) project through devolved grants to landcare in each region. These funds may be used for pest animal or weed control activities including biocontrol education and awareness. To help guide activities and overcome any barriers to using biocontrol on weeds a survey has been developed for each region. Below is a link to the survey about weed biocontrol in the Northern tablelands. We invite you to provide your input! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Weed_Biocontrol_survey_Northern_Tablelands |
