National Volunteer Week will be celebrated across Australia from 17 – 23 May 2021.  It provides a great opportunity for us all to say thanks to the many volunteers who help make our community stronger, and let them know their efforts and commitment are appreciated.

Nominations for the New England Volunteer Awards 2021 are now open. The Armidale Volunteer Referral Service has combined with the Alwyn Jones Community Service Award, to promote volunteering through the New England Volunteer Awards 2021. All nominees to the awards will be given a certificate of nomination.

Armidale Volunteer Referral Service Awards

There are 5 categories: 

• Youth – 24 years and younger;
• Adult – 25 – 64 years;
• Senior – 65 years plus,
• Team, and
• Management.

Armidale Regional Council’s AVRS coordinator, Jane Davies is very passionate about our local volunteers. In a letter from Jane introducing the Awards, she wrote: "Over the past two years I’m sure you’ve been impressed by the efforts that your volunteers have made in supporting your organization through the good times and, last year, the very bad times. You may well have seen some of your older volunteers having to step down from the roles they had treasured in order to self-isolate, and even though they have not yet come back to their role, you can show your appreciation of the time they spent with you by nominating them for an award.

We have again aligned our nomination form with the Centre for Volunteering to allow those who wish to have their entry forwarded to the NSW Volunteer of the Year Award 2021. I do recommend you persuade your nominees to do this as it demonstrates to the rest of the state how many wonderful volunteers we have supporting our community here, and the State competition can also win prize money for their organization".
