Corinne Arter, Co-CEO (Artistic & Education) of NECOM and creator of the concert series says, "Chamber music was written to be performed in intimate and personal spaces and these concerts bring us up close to the musicians and to the music. I can’t imagine a lovelier experience than to hear such lovely music in the gardens and sitting rooms of these prestigious homesteads".
On Saturday, 15 October the series will kick off with an outdoor performance in the beautiful gardens of 1908 homestead Emu Creek. Eliza Scott (violin), Louisa Sindel-Marshall (clarinet & saxophone), Paul Marshall (clarinet & saxophone) and Warwick Dunham (keyboard) will present an eclectic program ranging from highly energized saxophone duos to a klezmer reimagining of Mendelssohn to a special work Emu Run composed for the occasion.
On Sunday, 30 October the 1927 Mirani Homestead will host the vibrant young quartet of Eliza Scott (violin), James McKay (flute), Robert van Gend (viola) and Charlotte Low (cello), excited to be performing together as musicians and friends. Curated in the spirit of an 1800’s parlour concert, this performance will feature music of the Classical and early Romantic eras, with works by Mozart, Walckiers and Hoffmeister.
On Sunday, 6 November the 1840’s Ohio Homestead outside Walcha will host the final concert in the series, blending music of the High Baroque with readings from Mark Twain’s The Innocents Abroad. Enjoy Twain’s inimitable style as he takes us on a Grand Tour of the cultural capitals of Europe with Sarah Adeney (voice), Leanne Roobol (voice), Robert Jackson (cello) and Sheila Guymer (piano) with narrator Gareth Rickards.
As these concert venues are not usually open to the public, this series offers an exclusive opportunity to visit these heritage gardens in full springtime bloom, to have an exclusive look inside some of the New England’s most prestigious homesteads and a glimpse into history. It will not only be a real treat for the senses but concert proceeds will go towards NECOM’s outreach schools program to support music education opportunities for students in remote locations.
