Northern Tablelands Local Land Services are keen to work with farmers across the region to monitor their soil so that they gain a better understanding of its productive capacity.
Farmers across the region are encouraged to take a soil sample using one of the corers available for loan.
Samples will then be sent away for a free comprehensive analysis, and our team will then work with the landholders to help them interpret the results.
This information will also be used to build a snapshot of soil conditions in a region-wide profile on the productive capacity of the soils, as well as the distribution of carbon and other soil properties on different soil types, land uses and climates. An improved understanding of these traits enables Northern Tablelands Local Land Services to apply for relevant funding for landholder projects, and it allows us to help farmers understand the scope and range of soils on their property and what they can reasonably and sustainably expect from the soils in their local area.
Each office has soil corers and instructions on how to use them so farmers can drop into their local office to pick up a corer. For more information please phone Northern Tablelands Local Land Services on 1300 795 299.
