We will gather at 2.00 pm at ASCA house, corner of Barney and Markham Streets, Armidale.
There we will have an illustrated talk followed by questions and discussions.
Our speaker will be Dr Mari Koch, and the topic is: Nurturing our Native Ecosystems in Urban Areas
“Caring for our local flora and fauna is vital to maintaining earth’s health – and therefore ours. We can contribute to/create ecosystem refugia even in our urban gardens and properties. Lets talk about some key ways to do this – how every effort, no matter how small, can be valuable.”
Dr Mahri Koch is a local Ecologist and Parasitologist with a history of working with community through Landcare, and in private consultation with landholders on the New England Tableland.
Mahri’s 100 acre property in the eastern fall of the Northern Tablelands is under an in perpetuity conservation agreement with the Biodiversity Conservation Trust to protect the remaining critically endangered Eucalyptus pauciflora and E. viminalis there.
The doors at ASCA House will be open at 2.00 pm giving time to meet and greet before the talk which will start promptly at 2.15 pm.
Afterwards there will be time to check out the array of currently flowering plants from members’ gardens, join in the raffle of native plants to grow in your garden, and enjoy afternoon tea.
June 21st is the Winter Solstice so this is a great chance to anticipate the start of longer days, warmer weather and to look forward to a spring show in the gardens.
Please email the Australian Plants Society Armidale and District Group by the 8th June if you plan to join us, for catering purposes.
