Southern New England Landcare (SNEL) has been busy behind the scenes – supporting the revival of established groups, helping to energise existing ones, and even forming brand new community groups across our region.
With so much happening, now feels like the perfect time to share exactly how your “umbrella” organisation supports your local Landcare efforts.
Turning Great Ideas into Funded Projects
Have a project idea but unsure how to fund it? That’s where SNEL steps in.
If your group operates as a sub-group (rather than being independently incorporated), SNEL can act as the official grant proponent and administrator on your behalf.
In simple terms: we take care of the complex paperwork and compliance requirements – so you can focus on making your project happen.
Taking the Stress Out of Administration
Managing a grant can come with a long list of responsibilities – but you don’t have to carry them alone. SNEL supports your group by handling:
- Insurance requirements
- Budgeting and banking
- Financial management, bookkeeping, accounting and audit
- Australian Taxation Office reporting (including BAS submissions)
- Risk management and Work Health & Safety compliance
- Grant reporting.
All of this is overseen by a dedicated board of 7–10 volunteer community members who ensure strong governance and accountability.
More Than Paperwork – Hands-On Support
SNEL’s support doesn’t stop at administration. Depending on your group’s size and capacity, we can also help with:
- Coordinating meetings
- Facilitating action planning
- Supporting events
- Assisting with local project delivery.
Our goal is to empower your group to succeed – whether you’re just getting started or already running established programs.
Powered by the Landcare Enabling Program
Much of this support is made possible through the NSW Government’s Landcare Enabling Program, which funds our two part-time Local Landcare Coordinators, who work directly with groups on the ground.
Behind the scenes, our CEO, Bookkeeper and Receptionist also play vital roles in keeping everything running smoothly.
Understanding the Admin Fee
As a not-for-profit organisation that relies almost entirely on grant funding, SNEL applies a small administration fee – typically around 10% of the grant funds of projects we manage – to cover essential operational costs.
This ensures we can continue providing high-quality support to groups across the region – from financial management to compliance and coordination. That’s why it’s important all grant applications include an administration line item.
Working Together for Stronger Communities
Whether you’re reviving a local group, building momentum, or starting something new, SNEL is here to support you every step of the way.
By taking care of the complex behind-the-scenes work, we help your group focus on what matters most – making a real difference in your local environment and community.
