Community Webinar on Guyra Groundwater Network

WaterImageA free public webinar being held this month will give community members the latest information about the Groundwater Supply Network being developed in the Guyra district.

A session will be held at 11.30 am on Thursday, followed by a 6 pm session on Monday 25 May to give Guyra community members an update and the chance to ask questions about the bore network, which is being established as part of measures to increase the region’s water security.

“The live online webinars are a great way to keep people informed about the project while social distancing measures remain in place, and we encourage Guyra community members to register to participate,” Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said.

Each webinar will include a question and answer session to help ensure it addresses particular community queries or concerns.

“While this approach is a solution during the COVID-19 crisis, webinars could become an ongoing part of Council’s public engagement to make our community forums as accessible as possible,” Councillor Murray.said.

This month’s water supply network webinar will be independently facilitated by Southern New England Landcare Executive Officer Karen Zirkler.

“As Council ventures into community webinars, we are fortunate to have the assistance of Southern New England Landcare and its experience in running similar community forums,” Cr Murray said.

Topics covered by the 90-minute webinar will include:

    • construction of the eight supply bores and the underground piping and pumping network that will link them to the Guyra Water Treatment Plant
    • measures to avoid interfering with the supplies of other groundwater users
    • how the network will be used to provide increased regional water security
    • how the groundwater supply could contribute to a secure yield study being conducted as part of a required assessment and approval process for options to enhance dam storage levels

Community members will be able to submit questions before each session or during the webinar.

“The presenters will answer as many questions as possible during the time available. Answers that cannot be provided at the time will be made available later,” Cr Murray said.

“The webinar will also be available to view online afterwards," he said.
