    Completed Projects

2024-2025 FRRR Community Connection for Outlying Areas

    Funds: $19,984

Source: This project is supported by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, through funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund

The grant will be used to support the Walcha and Billy Creek – Hernani communities to be more prepared for, and resilient to, the impacts of drought through the delivery of six community events to bring people together, meet neighbours, strengthen networks, and increase knowledge and capacity around drought preparedness.

The project proposal is to hold 6 small local “community catch ups” between June 2024 and June 2025 – 4 would be in the Walcha area and 2 near Hernani in the north east of the SNEL area.

A 7th event in the project would be a “disaster debrief” bringing people together to network, reflect on the challenges of 2018-20, the decisions made share some of the challenges and learnings. This would be a facilitated session with the information captured and key findings drawn out which would feed into Walcha’s disaster recovery planning work and understanding gaps within the community.
