Source: This project is funded through Northern Tablelands Local Land Services under the Feral Fighters Program.
The aim of this project is to educate the community on best practice control methods of feral cat and Indian Myna in peri urban areas and promote new technologies and strategies including Feral Catc Scan, Indian Myna Scan and Feral Fighters.
The following activities will be undertaken:
CATS
- Conduct one community engagement activity or event that sponsors a keynote speaker.
- Purchase of cat traps to be available for loan from local govenrment partners
- Promote responsible pet ownership to the Southern New England community in partnership with Armidale Regional, Uralla, and Walcha councils., local vets and RSPCA.
- Subsidise the cost of cat desexing in July
- Promote feral cat scan for smart phones and encourage residents to participate.
- Potentially depending on community appetite, initiate local action groups.
INDIAN MYNAS
- Increase community awareness through community engagement activites including one information/training event.
- Purchase of indian myna traps to be available for loan from key outlets in Guyra, Armdiale, Uralla, Walcha.
- Reprinting the current resource in conjunction with other NT Landcare networks.
ALERT SPECIES
- Increase community awareness of alert spp identifie dinthe NT Reginal Pest Animal Plan - cane toad, tilapia, sambar deer.
