The Armidale community currently has the opportunity to give feedback on the Armidale Regional Council’s draft Koala Management Strategy.
The purpose of this strategy is to encourage the conservation, management and rehabilitation of areas of natural vegetation that provide habitat for koalas to support a permanent free-living population over their present range in Armidale local government area (LGA).
Combined with other initiatives across the state, the intent is to reverse the current trend of koala population decline.
Southern New England Landcare and our associated groups have been actively collaborating with Armidale Regional Council on information about koala corridors.
Our Northern Tablelands Koala Partnership Project team's community meeting on Saturday, 29th May where Armidale Regional Council will be presenting on the Koala Management Strategy, will give local landholders from Dangarsleigh, Castledoyle, Kelly’s Plains and Arding areas, the opportunity to look more closely at the key issues and possible outcomes.
Follow this link for the ARC's article on the draft strategy. The draft document is on public exhibition for 28 days. To have your say click here.
Or attend our community meeting on Saturday, 29th May to learn more first. Community submissions must be received by Armidale Regional Council no later than 10pm on Monday, 31st May 2021.
